Although I don't support Torres administration, I applaud its efforts to reduce government debts. This is a graph of government debts (public debts) per capita. It is a measure "of how much debt a government has per citizen. Calculated by adding short-term debt and long term debt, subtracting cash and other liquid assets, and dividing by the population, this metric is used as an aid for visualization of the total level of government debt"(business dictionary). Our government, past and present, have been doing a relatively good job keeping the level down. Cheeeeers!

Out of curiosity, I created this graph to see how we compare with Guam, Hawaii, California and China. As you can see, we have a lot to catch up. Let's be mindful however, that higher GDP means more socio-economic problems such as poverty, corruptions, racism, unemployment, homelessness, etc. We need a careful planning as our economy grows. Fiscal Year 2017 yielded about $445 millions in revenues. Only $445 millions for all the troubles, such as negative publicity of hirings of hundreds of illegal Chinese workers at the casino construction site. Our government can double this figure if it starts taxing the casino winnings like everywhere else with casino. What is stopping our leaders to impose such taxes?
[Verse 1]

However, the outstanding balance is on the rise again and will reach $100 million by year 2029.
I created a graph using information provided by the Bureau of Economic Analysis (BEA) which falls under the US Department of Commerce. I needed to do this to visually compare the two governor candidates' performances using GDP and the Real GDP data from Years 2002 to 2016. Real GDP is adjusted for inflation with a certain year as the base. It reflects the real GDP as the purchasing power of dollar diminishes over time due to inflation. The graph's dependent variables are in million dollars. CNMI Governors (2002~Present)
Juan Babauta 2002 ~2005 Ben Fitial 2006 ~ 2013 Eloy Inos 2013 ~ 2015 Ralph Torres 2015 ~ present As you can see, Babauta Administration experienced a gradual decrease in both GDP (Nominal) and Real GDP. However, that is due to the admission of China into WTO and the subsequent removal of quota. During this period, Garments factories on Saipan closed down and moved back to China. They were events, Governor Babauta had no control of. Year 2011 as the starting point, both GDPs started to increase slightly. In Year 2011, Ben Fitial was the governor, not Torres. Around 2012, China started to impose regulations on gambling in Macau and the casino owners in Macau needed a new ground. Our casino owes its success to the Chinese investors who chose to take the risks, just like the garment industry earlier. If Governor Torres' minion like Robert Hunter, who is desperate to keep his job, tells you that our economy is doing great, be very skeptical because both GDPs are beginning to drop after 2016, thanks to another regulation by the Chinese government. There is this guy, a CNMI government official, who got owned by a 10-year old girl on Facebook. He could not believe that a young girl could have her own opinion and kept suspecting that someone was putting words in her mouth. After being embarrassed by the girl, his wife came to his rescue trying to assert, or rather convince the girl, that her father was using her name to post comments.
This is the problem in this world. We tend to disqualify children from participating in adults discussions that affect them merely because we think they are not as intelligent as adults. That is wrong! Some kids can formulate their thoughts and opine better than many adults. In general term, we refer to them as "precocious kids". If you don't have one of those kids, you will never understand how they are and what they are capable of. High noon, oh I'd sell my soul for water
Nine years worth of breakin' my back There's no sun in the shadow of the wizard See how he glides, why he's lighter than air? Oh I see his face! Where is your star? Is it far, is it far, is it far? When do we leave? I believe, yes, I believe In the heat and the rain With whips and chains To see him fly So many die We build a tower of stone With our flesh and bone Just to see him fly But don't know why Now where do we go? Hot wind, moving fast across the desert We feel that our time has arrived The world spins, while we put his dream together A tower of stone to take him straight to the sky Oh I see his face! Where is your star? Is it far, is it far, is it far? When do we leave? Hey, I believe, I believe In the heat and the rain With whips and chains Just to see him fly Too many die We build a tower of stone With our flesh and bone To see him fly But we don't know why Ooh, now where do we go All eyes see the figure of the wizard As he climbs to the top of the world No sound, as he falls instead of rising Time standing still, then there's blood on the sand Oh I see his face! Where was your star? Was it far, was it far When did we leave? We believed, we believed, we believed In heat and rain With the whips and chains To see him fly So many died We built a tower of stone With our flesh and bone To see him fly But why In all the rain With all the chains Did so many die Just to see him fly Look at my flesh and bone Now, look, look, look, look, Look at his tower of stone I see a rainbow rising Look there, on the horizon And I'm coming home, I'm coming home, I'm coming home Time is standing still He gave back my will Ooh ooh ooh ooh Going home I'm going home My eyes are bleeding And my heart is leaving here But it's not home But it's not home Ooh Take me back He gave me back my will Ooh ooh ooh ooh Going home I'm going home My eyes are bleeding And my heart is leaving here But it's not home But it's not home Ooh Take me back, take me back Back to my home ooh, ooh, ooh Forced to run away from his homeland fighting against the invaders, then getting killed by his fellow Indians who sold their souls to the white man must have been mortifying. “If we must die, we die defending our rights” – Sitting Bull |
